Memorandum of Understanding regarding the Myopia in Arabic Initiative

As part of efforts to strengthen scientific and professional collaboration among Arab organizations specialized in vision sciences, and within the activities of the 10th Saudi Optometry Conference 2025 held in Riyadh, the Saudi Society of Optometry (SSO) and the Sudanese Optometry Society (SOS) had signed a MOU aimed at fostering partnership between the two parties under the “Myopia in Arabic” initiative, which is sponsored and supervised by the Saudi Society of Optometry.

This step reflects the mutual commitment of both societies to advancing the fields of optometry in the Arab region and to supporting joint initiatives in public awareness, scientific research, professional training, and knowledge exchange.

The memorandum was signed by:
Dr. Waleed Al-Ghamdi, President of the Saudi Society of Optometry,
and Dr. Mustafa Abdu, President of the Sudanese Optometry Society.

During the signing ceremony, both parties emphasized the importance of this collaboration in serving the profession and enhancing the standards of optometric practice in both countries, in support of the objectives of the “Myopia in Arabic” initiative — which aims to reduce the prevalence of myopia among children and youth.
